NM Engineering introduces the complete intake system for the turbocharged model MINI Cooper S. Unlike some competitors, NM’s intake features an integrated larger turbo inlet tube. The stainless brackets, hardware, and silicone couplings were all designed, engineered and manufactured to fit and perform.
The 'Open-Air-Box' system gives you the abundance and unrestricted 360° of air source compared to OEM's sealed airbox with a flat filter and tube-fed air source. During R&D, we installed temperature probes around the engine compartment and the gauge showed the inside temperature matched the ambient after the vehicle sped past 20 mph. And by logging the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor also showed that open-air-box intake generated a higher volume (gr/sec) of air going through the sensor. So when we had to choose between (a) cooler air at all speed with limited air source, vs. (b) cooler air at 20~ mph. with unlimited air source, the choice was pretty obvious.
The blue and black tube kits feature CNC mandrel-bent aluminum pipe and finished with a durable textured powder coat. The other option is Carbon Fiber tubing which features 100% carbon fiber composite material to be lightweight and for a great appearance. Utilizing the vacuum bag manufacturing method produces a part that has a consistent wall thickness while avoiding excessive resin build-up.
This kit is for the N14 Engine with Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. For vehicles without MAF, please use the NM.658856.1 part number.
Available in blue or black aluminum, and carbon fiber tubing.
For those who do not want to deal with periodical filter cleaning, a dry paper filter is an option. Made using the same paper material as the factory panel filters, designed to be thrown away once dirty. Same performance and price as the oiled filter. Make sure to choose part number that ends with (D) for dry filter kit.
